Houston Fleischmann

Houston Fleischmann (b. 1997) is a performer, arranger, educator with an extensive background in classical, contemporary, marching, and world percussion. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree  from Washington State University, a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from  Kansas State University and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Louisiana  State University. 

Houston began teaching percussion in 2015 with the Glacier Peak High School band program in  Snohomish, WA and was then appointed as the coordinator of percussion for the Seattle All-City  Marching Band from 2018-2022. After earning his bachelor’s degree, he served two years as an  assistant drumline instructor for the Washington State University Cougar Marching Band from  2021-2023 before becoming the drumline instructor and percussion graduate teaching assistant at  Kansas State University from 2023-2025. 

As a performer, Houston has appeared with the Washington State University Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Cougar Marching Band, and the Washington–Idaho Symphony Orchestra. While in Kansas, he has performed with the Kansas State University Wind  Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, and served as section leader for the  Manhattan Municipal Band percussion section. Houston currently performs as a member of the  Louisiana State University Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble, “Hamiruge.” 

Houston believes percussion education must be both comprehensive and focused on developing well-rounded, confident musicians. His teaching focuses on building mastery across all percussion instruments through individualized, progressive instruction. He aims to equip students with the technical precision, musical artistry, and critical thinking skills necessary for high-level performance, fostering not only proficient performers but also thoughtful, adaptable artists capable of succeeding in advanced performance ensembles.
